3. Specify Hot-Climate Performance for GCC Sites
Ask for an explicit ambient rating
“GCC climate” is not a specification. Riyadh in July can hit 47°C ambient with the sun on a back wall; Jeddah carries humidity on top; Muscat and Dubai run hot and humid for most of the year. A cabinet tested at 25°C/60% RH (climate class 3, the European default) is not automatically proven at 38°C or 46°C. The RFQ should request:
- Maximum declared ambient temperature and relative humidity
- Loaded product temperature at that ambient
- Recovery time after a 60-second door-open event
- Condenser trip temperature and protection logic
A written test report with the model number, test load, and result numbers is the only acceptable evidence.
Check heat rejection, airflow and condensation control
Hot ambient pushes more heat into the condenser. Inadequate condenser airflow causes high-pressure cut-outs and short-cycling. Verify that:

Validate site placement and commissioning

This is the most common procurement mistake. Saudi Arabia runs 230 V / 60 Hz in residential and many commercial sites; the UAE runs 230 V / 50 Hz; Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain are 240 V / 50 Hz with their own plug standards. IECEE records show IEC 60335-2-89:2019 as the international baseline, with CENELEC’s EN IEC 60335-2-89:2022 + A11:2022 carrying European common modifications.
